Review
Poatan the new GOAT? The review of UFC 303, here for you on CORNER
Hats off, Poatan!
Der Brasilianer arbeitet weiter an seinem Legendenstatus
Spectacular, more spectacular, Alex Pereira. Following Conor McGregor's last-minute withdrawal from UFC 303, Pereira and Prochazka stepped in at short notice. It was a huge risk, especially for the Brazilian champion, to risk his gold belt in a short-notice fight.
But what's the risk for Alex Poatan Pereira? The champion started the first round dominantly, and Prochazka found it much more difficult with his long-range tactics than in his last fight against Alexandar Rakic. At the end of the first round, there was the first major scare when Pereira knocked Rakic down with his signature move, the left hook. However, with only one second left on the clock, Prochazka safely made it to the break.
However, this wouldn't have much impact on the outcome of the fight. Pereira launched a left high kick in the opening action of the second round, catching the Czech fighter cold on the temple and sending him to the floor. A few ground-and-pound strikes later, the fight was over. The kick was so powerful that Pereira dislocated his own big toe, which he casually put back in place after the fight. Another spectacular victory for the tireless Brazilian, who likely now has his sights set on the ultimate goal of winning his third UFC heavyweight belt.
Short-Notice Spectacle
Diego Lopes wins against Dan Ige, who was still lying on the couch 4 hours before the fight
A UFC week couldn't have been more varied for Diego Lopes. First, two weeks before the fight, he stepped in as a replacement for Jamal Hill and Carlos Ulberg in a planned featherweight bout against Brian Ortega. Due to the latter, this fight was changed to a lightweight bout the day before the fight. A few hours before the fight, Ortega withdrew due to illness, and Dan Ige stepped in with four hours' notice – a new record. In an exciting fight, both put on a great show, and Lopes ultimately won by unanimous decision.
Also victorious in the main card were Giga Chikadze (Dec), Mayra Bueno Silva (TKO) & Ian Garry (Dec) , who is now 15-0.
