Two new champions, Brazilian Bombers & Glover Texeira
Mit Jamal Hill und Brendon Moreno sahen wir in der Nacht vom 22. Jänner zwei dominante Auftritte. Beide Kämpfer entschieden jede Runde in der sie kämpften für sich und holten sich so verdient den Gürtel Ihrer Gewichtsklasse.

Neben dem Main und Co-Main-Event, wo beide male "Ausländer" siegten, überzeugten davor die Brasilianer. Gilbert Burns, Jessica Andrade und Johnny Walker beeindruckten bei ihren Auftritten und holten sich dominante Siege. Ebenfalls wurden zwei Kämpfer für den Eintritt in die UFC Hall of Fame angekündigt. Mit Jose Aldo und Shogun Rua werden zwei große Namen in die Liste der besten MMA-Kämpfer aller Zeiten eingetragen - und das zurecht.

Im Hauptfokus stand jedoch bei diesem Event der Veteran Glover Texeira, der mit stolzen 42 Jahren versuchte, sich noch einmal die Krone im Light Heavyweight aufsetzen zu können. Jamal Hill war jedoch zu stark. Glover zeigte im Kampf aber enorme Nehmer-Qualitäten und konnte so "nur" per Unanimous Decision bezwungen werden. Bei seinem Post-Fight-Interview erklärte er seinen Rücktritt und nannte seinen Schützling Alex Pereira, mit dem er noch Großes vorhabe.

Particularly disappointing at the UFC event in Rio de Janeiro was the scene after the final fight of the evening, when Glover Texeira delivered his farewell speech. Brazil, normally considered a nation with a strong martial arts fanaticism, didn't show its best side that evening.
When Glover Texeira, undoubtedly one of Brazil's greatest MMA legends, gave his final post-fight interview in front of a nearly empty arena, this was sharply criticized by the media and pundits. The reason for this was likely the late start of the UFC 283 main card. After the fight, it was almost 3:00 a.m. at the venue. Whether waiting an extra ten minutes to bid farewell to a legend from your own country makes that much of a difference remains to be seen.
In the co-main event, Moreno and Figueiredo battled it out in the first tetralogy in UFC history. The fourth fight between the two, like others before it, wasn't exactly a top-notch MMA matchup. After a solid performance from Moreno and a weak performance from Figueiredo, the fight was stopped by the ringside doctor after the third round. This matchup has been criticized by many fans for its few spectacular moments, making a fifth encounter unlikely.
